BURKETT RACING STANDS ON PODIUM IN WCC ACTION |
| Fantastic results at Western Canadian Challenge sees Daniel Burkett hit the podium in regional action |
Winnipeg, Manitoba – Burkett Racing Enterprises of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the exclusive Canadian distributor of Hole Shot Drive Systems and dealer for the Arrow chassis, compiled a fantastic result in the second weekend of the Western Canadian Challenge held just outside of Saskatoon, SK. The team was on hand to compete in the double-header weekend looking to improve on a great start to the 2010 campaign that began in Chilliwack, BC. Team driver Daniel Burkett continued his impressive debut in Senior Rotax as he raced at the front all weekend and hit the top five twice including a third place finish in Sunday round four action. Burkett made the move to Rotax Senior Max the day before the opening race of the WCC and set his sites on success as the youngest competitor in the senior ranks having turned 15 at the end of February. Goals for the weekend in the soggy prairie province were to be in the top five throughout the weekend.
“Good decisions helped Daniel finish well,” comments BRE owner Murray Burkett. “Good clean racing and leaving room for fellow competitors to race allowed Daniel to finish the weekend unscathed.”
The Glover Brothers Racing team was awesome in providing support to BRE team drivers during the Saskatoon event. Kevin Glover, Daniel's coach, was very pleased to see the results and the quick progress Burkett has made since his move to senior, running ahead of the curve in his development as a driver. Saturday action saw Burkett run well to take fifth spot in the in the final race of the day and set himself for Sunday round four action. The Sunday race was a solid run from the drop of the green, as Burkett capitalized on a strong prefinal that put him at the sharp end of the starting grid. Pacing the leaders and holding station through the tight confines of the 13-turn Martensville Kart Track, Burkett showed excellent speed and focus. After the round four final on Sunday, that saw Burkett take third on the podium, karting veteran and multi time Team Canada member Scott Campbell commented on Daniels performance saying; “Daniel was much faster through certain sections of the course and I enjoyed battling with him. I just managed to put a pass on him during the final few laps.”
Also running with BRE was Western driver Yakov Zarteskin. Zarteskin drove well in the Junior 2 competition finishing just off the podium in fourth spot. This was a good result for Yakov who was competing in his first race away from his home at Gimli Raceway. The young driver did double duty racing in the Rotax Junior Rotax class as he expands his racing resume.
The second leg of Western racing saw the BRE team head to Russel, Manitoba for the new street race. Zaretskin racing for BRE in Russel placed first in Junior Rotax and in Junior 2 making it back-to-back wins. As with most street races you needed as much luck as skill to finish this tight but entertaining course. The people of Russel were treated to a great day of competition and have enthusiastically invited the Manitoba Karting Association to put on the event next year. Also making the trip to the Street of Russel was Burkett who was quickest in the morning warm ups and ended up collecting a dislodged barrier during the prefinal. Starting from the back of the field Burkett moved through the pack, challenging for second spot in the closing stages when the narrow track ran him out of space to complete the pass. Joining the BRE crew for the race was Glover Brothers Racing driver Garret Gulenshyn who finished first in Junior 1 Honda and second in Rotax Mini Max after leading the race until the final lap.
On the business front BRE continues to expand their dealer network. Kart Tec and BDR are now promoting the Hole Shot product in the Saskatoon area. The BRE organization continues to seek out new dealers across the country and looks to supply racers the products they need to compete.
“Positive feedback from the racers using the chain reinforces our decision to promote this outstanding product,” comments Burkett. “Garret (Grist) did very well and represented the Hole Shot product in a very professional manner - thanks to Garret.”
Along with the Hole Shot Drive Systems program, Burkett is also working closely with the Bull Dog line of split sprockets and engine mounts for four-cycle competition. Working with both the two-cycle and four-cycle classes is important to Burkett Racing as they look to build new customers from the grass roots of karting to national programs.
