CLAY VAN EERD DISPLAYS BRILLIANT DRIVE AT FLAMBORO
Talented junior pilot drives from twenty-seventh to third place in BSRKC event
Flamborough, ON – Clay Van Eerd, 2009 Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Novice Champion, continued his impressive 2010 season with a great performance at Flamboro Speedway, during the fifth round of the BSRKC competing in the Honda Jr. Lite class. Racing his way to an impressive third place finish, after starting at the rear of the field. With his drive on a track, his professionalism off track, and the ear-to-ear smile following the race, Van Eerd earned the ‘Autosports Media Group BSRKC Junior Driver of the Day’ award.

“I cannot believe it,” smiled Van Eerd following the race. “It was wild out there, but my kart was perfect, thanks dad, and I just kept passing karts. If the race was any longer, I could have made it to second place.”

In timed qualifying, Van Eerd placed his Collison Racing powered Birel kart on the pole-position, thanks to a blistering fast lap time. However, his time at the front lasted only four laps in the pre-final as a mechanical issue with his clutch forced him to pull of the track, and start the final in twenty-seventh place.

Getting a great start in the final, Van Eerd gained ten positions in the opening lap, passing karts on both inside and outside around the tight and twisty Flamboro circuit. Working his way into the top-ten by lap seven, Van Eerd was posting continuous fast laps, as he navigated through the heavy traffic. With five laps to go, and sitting in sixth place, Van Eerd made the move of the race, slicing though a group of lead and lapped karts to gain the third position. However, his pursuit of the leaders ended only a couple laps short, and he would settle for a very impressive third place result.

Following the race, both Clay and his father were thrilled with the results. “I don’t know who’s happier, my son, or me,” exclaimed Clays father Eric. “He just drove one of the best races I’ve ever seen. I am so proud of him.”

Next up for Van Eerd will be the Monaco de Trois Rivieres, a very popular street race held in Three-Rivers, Quebec. Following that, he will resume his championship chase in the BSRKC at the annual Ontario Grand Nationals at Shannonville Motorsports Park held from July 28 to August 1.
