Ocala Gran Prix prepares for Florida Winter Tour this weekend
Six drivers set to contest Formula Kart Florida Winter Tour weekend
February 8, 2010 – The Ocala Gran Prix (OGP)/Tony Kart race team has enjoyed a few weeks off from racing action and will now prepare for their assault on the second round of the Florida Winter Tour. With the event taking place at the Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida, the team and drivers will look to continue the momentum gained in the opening set of races in early January.

“The opening rounds of the Florida Winter Tour were very good to us and our team” expressed Ocala Gran Prix President Jorge Arellano. “The competition at the Florida Winter Tour is second to none. My guys have worked hard in the past few weeks and are ready to get to the track. Karts and motors are prepared, trailer is loaded and we are ready to win.”

In the Headline Formula Pro Rotax division, Brazilian national champion Nicolas Costa will look to add to his opening weekend win with another set of strong results. The talented pilot had a disappointing result on the Saturday of the opening round but worked hard to bounce back on Sunday to take the main event victory. Costa will be one of the favorites this weekend in West Palm Beach.

Joining Costa in the Formula Pro Rotax category will be Floridian Nick Neri. In his senior debut in Orlando, Neri claimed a seventh and fourth place finishes and currently sits third in the overall championship chase. Neri moved back to the junior ranks for the second weekend taking a pole position, two fast lap awards and two podiums including a dominating victory on Sunday. Look for both Costa and Neri to be at the front of the field.

Ocala Gran Prix will enter two competitors in the Formula Vortex TaG Cadet program as national level driver Ashley Rogero will be joined by Mathias Ramirez. Rogero has had a string of consistent top five results and has been very fast in both the Mini Rok and Rotax classes. Both drivers will do battle in the growing Mini Rok class as they look to battle for the win

Back for another weekend of racing action will be Formula TaG Masters driver Rob Maier. The Orlando area resident scored a podium result in the opening weekend after starting the main event from the tail of the field. As one of the fastest karts on the track, Maier would have been a sure threat for victory before having to come through the field.

Joining the team for the first weekend of racing action will be Holland’s Martijn Koene from Koene Racing and Race Tech Development’s Mike Maurini. The duo will be working with OGP’s Kyle Kraus, Mario Ioffredo and Nate Grindell to help their competitors achieve race wins and podiums.

Arellano added, “Every time a Florida Winter Tour event is on the horizon, I get really excited. Working with a great group of guys such as we have, everyone thrives on the knowledge and experience under the tent.”
